About Gleichweit Mouthpieces & Barrels
Johannes Gleichweit
Vienna, Austria — Mouthpiece Maker since 2003
Johannes Gleichweit has dedicated over two decades to perfecting the clarinet mouthpiece. In 2004 he patented a unique O-ring sealing system to replace traditional cork connections — a design now widely adopted across the industry. After co-founding Maxton in 2008, he relaunched Gleichweit in 2019 to bring his most refined work back to musicians worldwide. His philosophy is simple: every player deserves a mouthpiece that brings them closer to their ideal sound.
CNC Precision Manufacturing
Every Gleichweit mouthpiece is machined from high-grade synthetic material to tolerances measured in hundredths of a millimeter. The result is batch-to-batch consistency that professional players can depend on — no variation between pieces of the same model.
Full Clarinet Range
From Eb clarinet to contrabass, Gleichweit makes mouthpieces across the entire clarinet family. Whether you play in a symphony orchestra, a chamber ensemble, or as a soloist, there is a Gleichweit model designed for your instrument and your sound.
Vienna Tonal Character
Gleichweit mouthpieces are built in the Viennese tradition: warm, focused, dark, and centered. They reward players who want depth and resonance without sacrificing response or flexibility in the upper register.
Continuous Collaboration
Johannes works directly with world-class soloists and orchestral musicians to refine each model. Player feedback drives every design decision — from facing geometry to chamber dimensions — ensuring the mouthpieces evolve with the needs of serious clarinetists.
