About Open Tip Openings

The tip opening is the gap between the reed and the mouthpiece tip. An open tip (1.27–1.40 mm) gives the reed maximum freedom to vibrate — producing a big, warm, resonant sound with expressive dynamic range. Open tips require more breath support but reward you with incredible tone richness and flexibility.

What does the $40 cover?
The $40 is a flat test fee that covers the 7-day loan of the mouthpieces. It is not refundable and is not credited toward any purchase you make.
Can I keep more than one?
Yes — you can keep as many as you like. You will be invoiced for each one you retain at full price.
What if none of them work for me?
Return all five within 7 days and you will not be charged for any mouthpiece — just the $40 test fee which covers the service.
Do you provide a return label?
No — return shipping is at your own expense. We recommend using a tracked service, as the sender bears responsibility if the package is lost or damaged in transit.
Is open tip harder to play?
Open tips require more breath support and embouchure control than closed or medium tips. Players new to open tips may need a short adjustment period, but most find the expressive range well worth it. If you are unsure, the medium tip box is a good first step.

Care note: Most Gleichweit mouthpieces are made from synthetic material; select models are crafted from hard rubber. Either way, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or heat, which can cause discolouration over time. Clean with a soft, damp cloth.
